Convert colors for free in your browser
Pick a color or type one in any CSS format and copy it as HEX, RGB, or HSL. Add an image to pick colors from it and extract its palette.
How to use Color Converter & Picker
- Pick a color, or type or paste a value in any format. To work from a picture, add an image.
- Read the same color as HEX, RGB, and HSL. With an image, click a point to pick its color, or click a palette swatch.
- Copy the format you need, or export the palette as CSS variables, JSON, or a plain list.
Questions
- Which color formats can I type in?
- Anything your browser accepts as a CSS color: hex (#2684ff, also without the #), rgb(), hsl(), color names like teal, and newer formats such as hwb() or oklch(). Plain numbers like "38, 132, 255" are read as RGB.
- How do I convert HEX to RGB?
- Type or paste the hex value into the color field. The RGB and HSL values update immediately; click Copy next to the one you need.
- How do I pick a color from an image?
- Choose Pick colors from an image, or drop or paste a picture (JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and more). Click or tap any point; the color there, averaged over a few pixels to smooth out noise, loads into the converter. The image stays on your device.
- How is the palette chosen?
- By median cut: the image's pixels are repeatedly split in two along their most varied color channel until there are 5, 6, or 8 groups, and each group's average color becomes a swatch, most common first. Colors that look the same are merged, so a simple image can give fewer swatches.
- How do I export the palette?
- Choose CSS variables (--color-1 and so on), JSON (hex, RGB and share of the image), or a plain list of hex codes, then copy it or save it as a file.
- What happens to transparency?
- Transparency is not converted. If your value has an alpha channel, the tool shows the solid color and says so. Transparent parts of an image are left out of its palette.
- Why do my HSL numbers change slightly?
- Colors are kept as whole RGB values from 0 to 255, so HSL is recalculated from them and rounded to whole numbers.
