Online clock, timer and stopwatch
A large clock with extra time zones, a countdown timer with an alarm, and a stopwatch with laps you can copy or save. Go fullscreen to read it from across the room.
How to use Clock, Timer & Stopwatch
- Pick Clock, Timer or Stopwatch at the top.
- For a countdown, choose a length or type hours, minutes and seconds, then press Start (or Space).
- For the stopwatch, press Start, then Lap (or L) for each lap. Copy the laps or save them as CSV.
- Press Fullscreen (or F) for large digits.
Questions
- Does the timer keep counting if I switch tabs or my screen locks?
- Yes. The timer and stopwatch work from the time they started rather than counting ticks, so a background tab, a sleeping computer or a reload never loses time. The alarm sound is booked ahead on the browser’s audio clock, so it also rings on time in a background tab.
- What happens when the countdown ends?
- An alarm beeps for up to a minute, the digits flash, and the tab title changes to “Time’s up!”. If you turned on system notifications, one also appears when the tab is in the background. Press Dismiss, Space or Esc to stop it.
- Why is there no sound after I reload the page?
- Browsers only let a page play sound after you click or press a key on it. A running timer keeps its time through a reload, and the page asks you to click anywhere once so the alarm can sound again.
- Will a running timer still be there if I close the tab?
- Yes. A running countdown or stopwatch, its laps, and your extra time zones are saved in this browser on this device and come back when you open the page again. Nothing is sent anywhere. Reset clears them.
- What are the keyboard shortcuts?
- Space starts and pauses the timer or stopwatch, L marks a lap, R resets, F toggles fullscreen, and Esc dismisses the alarm.
- What is in the lap CSV?
- One row per lap with the lap number, lap time and total time as h:mm:ss.cc, and the same two times in seconds so a spreadsheet can add or average them.
