Drop a file and find the right tool

Drop any file to see what type it is and open it, already loaded, in a tool that can work with it, or check it against the upload requirements a site gave you.

How to use File Tool Finder
  1. Choose or drop any file.
  2. Check the detected type.
  3. Pick a tool; it opens with your file already loaded. Or check the file against upload requirements and fix it.
Questions
How is the file type detected?
From the file's first 16 bytes (the signature that identifies PDF, PNG, JPEG, GIF and WebP), then from its MIME type and extension. Nothing else in the file is read.
Do I have to choose the file again in the next tool?
No. Tools that take files open with your file already loaded. Text tools like the Word Counter work on pasted text, so for text files you paste the content there.
A site rejected my file. Can this help?
Yes. Choose "Check it against upload requirements", enter the format, dimensions, shape and maximum size the site asked for, and every failed check is explained. Fix it makes a new file that meets them, checks it again and leaves your original unchanged. The same check opens directly as Fix My Upload.
What if my file type isn't recognised?
You can still calculate its hash with the Hash Generator or encode it as Base64.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Detection runs in your browser, and the file is passed to the next tool through your browser's storage on this device.
