Free online metronome
Set a tempo from 30 to 300 BPM or tap it in, choose a time signature, accent any beat and add subdivisions. The click is timed by your browser’s audio clock, so it stays steady.
How to use Metronome
- Set the tempo with the slider, the + and − buttons, or by tapping Tap tempo (or T) along with the music.
- Pick a time signature and, if you want, a subdivision.
- Click a beat light to accent it or remove its accent. Beat 1 starts accented.
- Press Start or Space. Change anything while it plays.
Questions
- How accurate is the timing?
- Each click is booked ahead at an exact time on the browser’s audio clock, which plays it sample-accurately. The page only decides which clicks to book next, so a busy page or a slow screen does not move the beat. The beat lights follow the audio clock, so they line up with what you hear.
- How does tap tempo work?
- Tap the button or press T at least twice in time with the music. The tempo is the average of your last few taps, so one uneven tap barely changes it. A pause of two seconds starts a new count.
- Does it keep playing in a background tab?
- Yes. Its scheduler runs in a background worker and books clicks further ahead while the tab is hidden, so it keeps time while you look at sheet music or another app.
- What do the time signatures change?
- The top number sets how many beats are in a bar and how many beat lights you see. The tempo always counts those beats, so 6/8 at 120 BPM plays six clicks at 120 per minute; accent beats 1 and 4 to feel it in two.
- Are my settings saved?
- Yes. Tempo, time signature, accents, subdivision and volume are remembered in this browser on this device. Nothing is uploaded.
