Questions
How random are the passwords?
Every character is chosen with your browser's cryptographic random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues), using rejection sampling so no character is more likely than another. The password is created on your device and never sent anywhere.
Which characters can a password contain?
You choose from four character types: uppercase A–Z, lowercase a–z, numbers 0–9, and the symbols !@#$%^&*()-_=+[]{};:,.? Every type you include appears at least once. You can also leave out look-alike characters (O 0 l 1 I |).
How long can the password be?
Between 8 and 64 characters. The default is 20.
What does the strength rating mean?
It is an entropy estimate: length × log2 of the number of possible characters. Under 50 bits is Weak, 50–74 Fair, 75–99 Strong, and 100 or more Very strong.
Does the tool remember my settings?
Yes. Length and character choices are saved in this browser, so the next visit starts with the same settings. Passwords themselves are never saved.
