Verify a File’s SHA-256 Checksum
Use this when a download page lists a checksum and you want to be sure the file is complete and unchanged.
Steps
- Choose the downloaded file.
- Wait for the hashes to appear.
- Paste the published checksum into Compare with expected hash.
- Look for Match.
Good to know
- The checksum is compared with SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512, so you do not need to know which one was published. MD5 is not supported.
- You can paste a whole line like “SHA256: …” or sha256sum output; the hash inside is picked out.
- Very large files must fit in your browser’s memory to be hashed.
