Fix a Photo the DS-160 or DV Lottery Upload Rejects
Use this when the DS-160 visa form or the DV lottery entry says your photo failed for its format, size or file size.
Steps
- Choose a recent colour photo of your face against a plain white or off-white background.
- The rules are already filled in: JPG, exactly 600 × 600 px, square, at most 240 KB.
- Press Fix it. The photo is cropped evenly to a square, so keep your head in the middle.
- Read the second check, then save the fixed photo and upload it.
Good to know
- 600 × 600 px meets both forms: the DV entry needs exactly that, and the DS-160 takes 600 to 1200 px. Head size and position are not checked here; to frame your head to the template, use Passport Photo instead.
- These are the U.S. Department of State’s current digital image rules. The embassy or consulate decides whether a photo is acceptable, so check its instructions; passing here cannot promise acceptance.
